You know you're in the south now, right? People tend to drive more lackadasically here than up north. Agreed that the cabbies are a challenge around here. Many are from other countries and haven't been driving that long. The taxi market isn't as heavily regulated here as it is in NYC so you have a lot of decrepit cop cars being used as taxis instead of new specific built models. I suggest slowing down a bit and wait a few moments for people to drop off their passenger or U turn to snag a parking spot. Honking or riding someones tail will only exacerbate the problem.
Now enough traffic talk, have you been to U street and the 14th St corridors? Some great bars and restaurants in both... welcome!
