There's only 2 circuits coming out of the MC, not 4. So they branch somewhere. The mechanical arrangement of the MC allows a small possibility of air from one circuit getting into the other. Similarly, the plumbing where they branch allows something similar.
Used to be that you would always pick one circuit & do the farthest one (rear) then the near one (front). Then do the other circuit. So the bleeding order was always an X starting at the rear.
With ABS the plumbing got more complicated. It's all about the small possibility of air from one circuit getting into another circuit. But the plumbing configuration is all different for any type of car, so there's no "universal rule" that works for all cars.
But... I'm pretty sure the consequences of doing the wrong order is simply that you might have to go around more than once before you work out all the air bubbles. Not a big deal for the home mechanic. Probably a shop would worry about that if the "book rate" for a bleed job is only 10 minutes so you don't want to waste time going around more than once.
