The biggest buyer inducement is the artificially interest rate that is being offered primary through the US central bank . . . and that liquidity oozes / gets force-fed into Canadian economy. Canadian economy fundamentally is still dependent on mineral export, and every other industry, from finance to medicine to education, all live off that primary source of income (in exchange for all sorts of goods that come in through import without collapsing the Canadian Dollar). The artificially low global interest rate environment is what's causing Canadian and Australian economies to overheat. The purpose of such artificial low interest rate of course is to bailout wall street banks. To the extent that will snag Canadian and Australian banks in the coming years due to the current bubble blowing, so much the better for the Wall Street banks.

The biggest advantage Canada has over the US is not having the military spending burden. The real dichotomy in any economy is not government vs. private sector, but whether consumers have real choice. "Government" is an empty artificial mental construct just like "corporation." Neither of them can do anything without the individuals controlling them doing things in their names. If given monopolistic power, the anonymity provided by the "corporate veil" and "government veil" tend to become inefficient and abusive. That's why having real consumer choice and avoiding coercion is the key to human liberty and prosperity. For example, tax money does not not magically become bread in the big granite box called "government" (or "corporation"). Real people have to mix real capital and real labor to make bread to feed the hungry. Who gets to decide what bread machine gets built and who work on the bread making line and how bread gets distributed are all real issues for which optimal solutions change over time as new technologies and new information become available. That's why market price discovery process promotes efficiency (just like evolution) whereas apriori government designs, regardless how optimal they start off, always break down over time. Funny, isn't it, the usual liberal vs. conservative positions on evolution vs. design are exactly turned upside down when analyzing market vs. government ;-) That's why I don't put much stock in the usual left vs. right paradigm.
