As a person who has owned and driven 2 subarus and 3 audis (two of them the big wagons) since 1985, I would say your choice depends on your usage. The Forester has more ground clearance if your roads are rough, the audi has better ride, solid feel and IMHO is more safe. MPG, I think the subie wins that. That said, I've been marooned by all my Audi's for various reasons, the subies never stranded me, and Audi's are extortionate to fix if you don't DIY. Still, I would choose the Audi just for the driving pleasure. The Subarus felt like tin cans. The one negative I have heard about the Forester is the wheel bearings have a design flaw and don't last, but can be replaced with legacy bearings (I think). Good luck with your choice, hope this helps.
