Not sure restraint of trade is at the heart of it. GM probably sells more cars in an hour than Saab sells in a whole year, so Saab is not now nor would it ever realistically pose a threat to the mother ship. I suspect the problem - if you can call it that - is that in its latter years Saab became indistinguishable from GM itself. If Saab were materially different - either in product or manufacturing or design processes, GM would be able to sell it off without selling itself in the process. As with Saturn, Pontiac and Hummer, Saab became too GM for its own ultimate good. And GM is unwilling to sell that. We may not be happy with that, but that is GM's call to make.
