Sorry to disappoint but, no, NEVS is not going to be able to 'pull it off.' There's exactly no market for a new SAAB, period, in a time when there is huge overcapacity in European auto manufacturing. I don't see NEVS or any other concern without incredibly deep pockets being able to go to a creditor and ask for capital to recreate this brand. Why would anyone risk their money to do so when the brand has already failed twice?
Sure, we'd all like to see SAAB revived and be back to what it was in the glory days -- whenever that was -- but the reality is that few of us bought new SAABs in the past decade or so at anything close to sticker price. I bought three new SAAB 9-3s since 2001 and all came with discounts of up to $10K off sticker. If you want SAAB to exist, be prepared to pony up close to $40K for a basic new / refreshed 9-3 or equivalent. Are you going to do that? Why would you when you could get a Mazda 6, say, for 60% of that price? Nostalgic feelings?
The bottom line is that no European car company, especially one with such a small production base over which to spread its high costs, can survive in the face of lower-cost Asian brands with a US manufacturing base. Sadly, the future belongs to flashy but disposable mediocrities like Kia and Hyundai or even Chery once Chinese auto imports start flooding the market.
