I wouldn't do it. You won't find any manufacturer of AWD systems endorsing such behavior, and probably for good reason. You certainly wouldn't cook the diff in 5,000 or 10,000 miles, but you might significantly reduce its life - and a failed center diff means a transmission rebuild. Not cheap.
FWIW, my XJR knows when one tire is down just 5psi and the ABS/TCS system goes nuts. It doesn't take much tire variation for make a measurable difference.
If you don't want to throw a lot of money at this problem, just go to Pep Boys or some shady local tire store and buy some cheap Nankang or whatever tires for it. Or go hit up an Audi or Subaru wrecking yard and buy some used tires from some other AWD vehicle. At least you won't be sabotaging the future owner of the vehicle.
