I can see how many wouldn't want to own a pure EV (long trips). Plug in hybrid is another matter though. The only issue there is that the real potential benefit of a pure EV is lost in a hybrid: simplicity. The pure EV loses an exhaust system, fuel system, lots of auxiliary parts, engine, and in some cases even the transmission. Unless the ICE part of a hybrid is very minimalist, all of those systems are back in place. But the ICE doesn't need to be all that powerful - if it's only needed on long trips, iirc it's about 15-20hp required to cruise on the highway, maybe a little more to recharge the battery... 200hp is for accelerating, not all the time, and the electric motor can do that...
