In 1982 I was working at a Saab dealer and the big beater chevy had to be replaced by something more fuel efficient. A tech I worked with had a beater 96 v4, and I was impressed by how simple it was. One day a college student came in needing a rear brake line for his '73 95 v4 wagon. When he found out that the part was $23 he said "I need to sell this and fix my Pinto, It's much cheaper to run"-- I said how much do want for the Saab and he replied $800 is what I need to fix my Pinto. I gave him $600 cash and the car was mine. Our dealership had lots of 96 parts on the shelf that they sold me really cheap, some free. I repainted it, rebuilt the transmission and drove the crap out of it. Never let me down, and soon after I bought a 66 96 2-stroke that I drove for years, and now 30 years later I have a 59 93b, 2'64 GT-850's,'78 ems,'94 900s v6,'94 CE cv, 2003 Aero wagon and a 2004 9-3 that is my daughter's car. I have owned about 30 different Saabs as my daily driver, and still have some I bought 25, 20 and 10 years ago. A bunch of Saabs forever, indeed.
