the best helmet available is the 6D
http://www.6dhelmets.com/
they have inner and outer liners of different densities and silicon shock absorbers in between. They make a carbon downhill bike helmet that meets bike standards and I am sure they will make other bike helmets soon. Their founders are bike bike racers, as well as MX racers.
My gandson Zack wears one for BMX.
No one has come close. The key in bicycle protection is low and mid level impacts, and rotational impacts, not just linear impacts.
They pricey because the are exotic with over the top engineering.
