I've been in some weird desert weather before but I've never experienced anything like what just happened in 21 years as a desert dweller in Northern LA County.
Had about an hour or two of lightning and thunder prior to the rain. The rain storm itself started out as high wind with horizontal rain, then torrential vertical rain with pea-sized hail, and then about 20 minutes of torrential rain with quarter-sized hail. Street flooding, and the dirt road along the adjacent horse properties is now a river! What a mess in just one hour of rain. Outside temp went from 83F to 57F.
My '06 9-3 SC was in the driveway for a few minutes of the quarter-sized hail until I could get it in the garage - hope there's no damage. Now it's partly sunny with a double rainbow. Beautiful...
This is stuff I expect in Texas and tornado alley, not California. Before all the drama I was pulling weeds and noticed an ant frenzy with them moving eggs. They probably knew what was coming.
Update - inspected the car and I do have a few small hail dents. I'm sure they can be easily taken out.
