The Jalopnik article is extremely sympathetic to the man but mostly all I see is disorganized blight in the form of some really nice cars (the silver Scirocco 16V warms my heart).
The desert here has plenty of abandoned cars in bunches like that — though not to that scale — and they become an unsightly habitat for rattlesnakes, vermin, and poisonous spiders. And they hardly decay.
One of my neighbors has had a Willys Jeep, an MG, a Firebird, and some unrecognizable late-40s car in his front yard (!) for the 14+ years I’ve been in my house. Ordnances to keep properties free of junk cars are there for a reason, etc.
