Yes I want to run the decking perpendicular to the house. I can see the joists provides strength to the structure as they are. Adding the short sections between the joists seemed like a lot of wood. I wasn't sure if the frame and the one joist in the middle would provide enough support.
All that rotted wood was pressure treated and only about 10 years old. I think there must have been a pool of water accumulating in that corner.
I am laying out the job now and will be starting it this weekend.
