A 2018 330i xDrive is what I finally replaced my 2007 9-5 SC (my third 9-5 wagon) with. No, you won't get that for $10k, but there are older ones for that.
It's smaller than the 9-5, but big enough. I'd love to consider a 5 series, but they haven't sold those in N America for some time.
Mine has the base suspension and just 17" rims, but handles way better than the 9-5 Aero and has plenty of pep and gets as good, maybe even better mpg than the 9-5 did.
Has the sport seats and they're very comfortable.- I won't say 9-5 level, but much more so than my 2018 A5 that I recently replaced.
It has some nice storage, securing features in the back.
