If Saab didn't want you to use jumper cables they would not sell them, they wouldn't explain in the owners manual the proper procedure, furthermore, the dealer would tell you this when delivering the car if this were the case.
Tus, there is not problem throwing even 14 volts at the 12 volt system. First off, batteries take more than 12.0 volts when they are charging, when the battery is 100% charged it will ahave voltage reading of more than 12.4 volts, discharged batteries will measure down to about 11.6 volts. Look at the battery gauge if you have one, it's not lying to you. Also cars must have a method to regulate voltage to protect the electrical system. I use jumper cables with my pickup all the time starting my customers dead cars in the parking lot when it goes 10 or 20 degrees below the doughnut. I have a 24 volt system in my pickup for starting. Point is one must pay attention to what one does when jumping cars, ever see a battery blow up from a spark near the battery case? It can be very messy as well as dangerous.
