It seems to me that a gas tank filler pipe should be on the curb side of the car i.e. right side where cars drive on the right side of the road . I would assume then that Jap & Brit built cars would have it on the left . NOT SO !! There seems to be no pattern except I have found Ford & GM have it on the right like Saab . Perhaps the best place is behind the fold-down rear license plate but that never seemed to catch on perhaps because of the difficulty of locking it . I always feel foolish when I pull up to the wrong side of the pump in a rental car . Any thoughts on this vexing problem ?
