Buy used whenever you can. Or lease, but be careful not to get
lease after lease after lease until you go broke or die of old age.
Some of the normal families I know get a new car every so many years,
say 3-5 years. They used to buy, but now the lease so they can get
something new every 3 years. This is what is fiscally irresponsible
for people who aren't loaded. These people are slaves to the automakers.
Let me say it again, People who do this are slaves to the automakers.
If you have to get rid of it after 3 years, you either made a poor choice
deciding on a car, or you are indecisive, or the money wasn't an issue.
Buy a car, used if you don't want to spend the money on a new one,
and keep it as long as you can.
All may cars have been used, except the viggen, since that wasn't
available used. And that wasn't a rational decision by any means.
Even the used cars have not all been rational decisions. I like to
think of it as priorities. Some people spend thousands per year on
audio equipment. Others travel a lot. Others make worthy causes a high
priority (like their local church or animal shelter or civic group).
I expect to continue to buy used cars whenever possible. If you can afford
a new saab or saturn, you can afford a used Jag/Mercedes/Porsche.
People just don't consider stuff like that when searching for a car.
