Here in Canada the Aero is about $15,000 more than the Maxima. I have had both cars (the Saab is a '97 Aero). In over 120,000 kilometers in the Maxima, I had no mechanical problems of consequence. In 62,000 kilometers in the Aero, the master clutch cylinder has been replaced twice, the slave cylinder was replaced, fifth gear has been replaced, the water pump has been replaced, the direct ignition cassette has been replaced, as has the serpentine belt and its tensioner. I've had several engine oil leaks and many rattles. When it's working, the Saab is a great car and fun to drive. The Maxima always worked well and was fun to drive. Its 6 cylinder engine is generally , and rightly, regarded as one of the great car engines. The 5-speed was smoother than the Saab's. You picked the wrong car to compare the Aero to. I suggest you stick to comparing the Aero to a similarly over-priced European money-pit.
