I have a spare key that the dealer made for me to get into the car in case I get locked out. I was warned that this could happen at the car wash because I have the door set to lock automatically when the car is moving.
I cut off the rubber piece of the key so it would fit in my wallet. The key works fine for unlocking the doors and trunk. When I put it in the ignition the SID displays a message (invalid Key) and the car won't start.
It's my understanding that only keys with the remote included that have been mated to the car will work. If you lose one of the keys or it is stolen the dealer can deactivate it and program a replacement.
