I'm not an expert on this but here is my take. There are different levels of platform sharing. One is comparing a camry xls to an ES300, the previous generation Grand Prix to the old Chevy Lumina or Infiniti I35 to the Maxima. These cars are almost identical and if you had the opportunity to experience them with a blindfold, you wouldn't tell a difference. That is *nothing* like the sharing with 9-3SS, Opel Vector or Grand Am. This form of sharing offers completely different cars with a lower development cost. The expensive items that make a Saab are the engines top-end, computer management and turbo system, the high quality interior including the incredible seats. The suspension bushings, possibly geometry and settings also tailor a car to a "Saab feel". That is what you pay for, not a hood/trunk badge, like some of the other cars mentioned.
