The post had an article about exactly this topic:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/style/2015/09/02/americas-fading-car-culture/
I see it at work and in our neighborhood -- most people under 40 are
(to be honest as they should be) committed to family. The street (in
the city it's mostly on-street parking) and the lot at work are filled
with mostly basic transportation. The compact SUV is edging out the
minivan as the family vehicle of choice, but it's still pressed into service
as the family hauler. Practicality is the primary goal. Even the
younger, unmarried guys at work seem to drive well-worn basic sedans.
There are some exceptions. One young female co-worker sprung for
a bright red mustang a couple of years back. She didn't keep it
long though, after a couple of fender-benders she moved on and
drives a Prius now.
The few remaining exceptions are, as you might guess, owned by older guys.
I think the whole gearhead in love with cars thing is fading away.
One fact that to me points this out is that fewer and fewer kids
are getting licenses as soon as they are old enough. To me this
is unthinkable -- I was after my parents to get mine the minute I
was old enough. But today it seems it's not all that important.
Plus it's harder. 40 years ago pulling the heads or even the whole
engine was something a kid could do. Today, not so much.
Oh well. More, cheaper cool cars for us I guess.
