There is a lot of nostalgia even in my generation for older cars, but the cost of getting into them is prohibitively high.
If you find a good or even just a reasonable example of a classic car, the cost is HIGH, even with prices going down recently, its still very very high.
if you find one in your price range, its going to have massive amounts of needed repairs, or unrepairable rust, electrical issues, etc.
Getting parts, body panels, or even a knowledgeable mechanic means you spend more $ with classic cars than it used to.
Many people any more cannot save up the money, and are not patient enough to wait to obtain the things they need to own, rebuild, repair, maintain a vehicle. we live in a generation of the newest and greatest (how many people waited in line for the new stupid iPhone?).
Speaking from some experience, i have an 89 Cherokee, but I also had briefly a mid 80's firebird (a dream car of mine from when i was a kid). The shear number of available parts, support, forums, chat groups, upgrades, performance mods, etc. for the jeep are too numerous to count, The firebird had almost 0. forums with a reply or two a day, a few articles, etc. I just couldn't get my project off the ground. My XJ on the other hand? I cannot even keep up with the 4 dedicated forums, I get 20 catalogs a month of available parts and upgrades, Technical knowledge abounds, When I run into problems, I've had people offer to stop by and for free, donate their time and knowledge to help me out. My firebird? couldn't even find a single local group.
Every time I park my jeep in a parking lot, it becomes a mini car show by the time I leave the shopping center/work, it garners sooooo much more attention and enthusiasm than my firebird ever did. (jeeps never let jeeps park alone)
