Distributor signal question.

I'm starting to investigate the options for an aftermarket ECU.
I know some people have used the crank pulley for the signal and others have used the stock distributor setup.
I'm would like to keep the ignition system somewhat stock so I don't have to mess with getting the stock tach to work and buying all new coil packs/wires/etc...
1. Does the distributor produce a signal for every cylinder or just 0 and 180 degrees?
2. How many degrees BTDC does the signal trigger? (most ECU's that I have looked at need this to be 40-60 degrees BTDC)
