I took my car to the drag races for the 1st time on the 4th.
I was real interested to see what she could do (without flogging the transmission). My times and TRAP SPEED were a disappointment!
The#s
R/T .469
60' 2.640
1/8 10.537 at 71.62 MPH
1/4 16.050 at 90.70 MPH
This was the best run (excluding R/T)!
Outside temp 73F with high humidity.
They seem like poor # for a very modified 1991 900T.
A lesser modified 2007 VW GTI smoked me.
His best # (against me)
R/T .616
60' 2.478
1/8 9.471 at 78.83 MPH
1/4 14.453 at 98.63 MPH
The problem with my car was, the boost would taper off as I went down the strip. 1st and 2nd would spike to about 24psi and taper down to 17psi. 3rd would spike lower around 20Psi and taper down to 14psi. 4th would spike to 16 psi and taper down to 10-12 psi by the end of the strip (10psi is base boost as recomeded by SD).
I have never seen my boost drop this low on the street. I routinely will accelerate from 0-60, 30-80 and 55-95 when the opportunity presents itself. But I have only done a 1/4 mile from a standstill a handful of times with the G-tech. It has always performed better than this but the temps in the 50s.
On the way home, I checked the boost behavior just to make sure nothing was wrong. In 4th gear on the freeway: boost spikes to 24psi and slowly drifts down to 20psi as it rapidly accelerated (just like normal).
I was expecting to see a 1/4 in the low 15s around 98MPH
I think the stock intercooler cant cope with the heat.
My motor mods:
SD red Fuel Injectors
3Bar FPR
SD Eprom
SD blow off valve
SD Red Turbo
SD Cams
SD APC
SD K&N cone filter
Magnecor wires
Magnaflow 2 1/2" cat back
MSD 6 BTM with Timing 20 base going to 10 at max boost.
MSD HVC coil
MSD base timing controller
My Devils Own water injection kit will arrive on Monday. I hope this will stabilize the boost for those long pulls.
Has anyone had a similar experience with a classic 900 on the strip? Also, what have other people done to solve this problem with boost taper?
Any thoughts are welcome (excluding drag launch and reaction times recommendations.)
Thanks
Brandon
