4 digits...C...not F... Posted by Karl [Email] (#161) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Karl) on Wed, 13 Dec 2000 04:09:46 In Reply to: Re: I had a cherry red header last night?, Mathias, Tue, 12 Dec 2000 16:56:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As Mathias said, I was recommended by a "guru" at Saab engine development in Trollhättan (Saab plant), to not run WOT for more than 20 secs, as testing with S/W very similar tom mine had proven to cause EGT to rise well into the 4 digit zone. Quite often up to 1050 degrees C, which is way past dangerous for the engine... Normally, he recommends trying to stay under 970. Occasional bursts up to 1000 can be acceptable.
But then again, 20 secs at WOT means that perhaps your engine life is the least of your concerns... Imagine flooring it at 120-130 mph and keeping it firmly planted for 20 secs...
