Shaun, I've followed your saga with the Paeco engine and I really feel you.
I'm sorry that I was confused by the measurements, I thought you had measured near the bottom of the skirts, this area is thin and compared to the rest of the piston expands very little.
Leasco might be able to give you some numbers to compare, by measuring some of their forged units, JE I think. Ask them to measure near the crown and below the wristpin, then compare that to yours. Arias is the only one that should be able to tell you what they really should measure.
Pistons generally wear very little, friction between them and the bore is negliable. Most wear occurs between the rings and bore, because this provides the seal and similar metals working against each other makes more friction.
Piston wear is usually easy to spot visually, since you didn't say anything about the way they looked, I am assuming that they look normal. So, I feel sure that the pistons were manufactured this way. You can compare these to other forged pistons, but each manufacturer uses different alloys and each forging process is different, so each manufacturer's pistons may have different properties.
I'd consider boiling a piston in water, then measuring it. I think you would be surprised at the difference. This shouldn't expand it to where it would be at normal operating temps, but should should give you an idea of the difference heat makes.
