I live in Hong Kong and drive a 9000CS 2.0 LPT (automatic) fitted with Abbot Racing's reprogrammed Trionic and intercooler. A Sunny 1.5 once provoked me into a race and while I comfortably outrun and outaccelerated it on a highway (speed > 70 km/hr), I was later overtaken by it in a straight urban street at speed of about 50km/hr even though my auto gear selector was kept at 2nd gear and I floored the accelerator. I guess this shows for maximum acceleration, it is counter-productive to floor the accelerator.
On an earlier occasion in a highway, a 3.0 V6 Camry tried to outaccelerate me when the 2 cars were line abreast in their respective lanes at 100 km/hr. By the time I reached 160 km/hr, he was at least 5 car lengths behind me. I guess Saab turbos are among the best in its class when it comes to top gear acceleration.
