It's made out of UHMW (hdpe) and it works great. I've had it in a few days and there hasn't been a lot of dry pavement, but there has been enough to know that just replacing the rubber bushing with something a lot stiffer makes a BIG difference. Even my wife said it was a lot better. (I know I’m not imagining it)
Today I'll be picking up some more plastic and making a few more first run models, I have a few guys picked out that will be testing them for me (btw, GaryG check your mail) and I’ll be installing one on the other side of the rack to see how difficult that is, and if it can stiffen things up even more.
I'm still doing testing for the brace, to see where the firewall, or rack clamp flex is coming from. Or if there is even any flex (wouldn't be the first time a performance company has made up a solution to a made up problem)
Looks like it's gona be a bit more work/time to make at the shop then I had hoped (I already worked him down to almost half the cost per part from his first quote), but I think the price is still going to be very reasonable, about $20 per bushing. Anyway, I have a few pics of the first one (actually 2 we messed up the first one) I didn't take any pictures after I had cut the hole in the middle or after removing a chunk so it could be installed. I'll get some of them after I make the next small batch.
