i'm a college student and i own a 2000 honda civic si, although i have a friend who owns a 1999 9-3 who btw frequents this board (he says the se manual does 6.9-7.2 sec 0-60), i really don't know the performance specs of the se version. in response to your message, i believe the driver of the si didn't know how to drive/shift and as you have pointed out, the lack of torque does makes it harder to drive the si properly. you really have to get to know the quirks of the b16a2 engine. the car really is not that powerful i admit in normal driving but definitely fun and driveable (and awesome gas mileage may i add :) ) the nimble handling is always there so i don't have to rev to have a blast (the handling is amazingly neutral for a fwd car with a tendency to drift rather than understeer like most all fwd cars). automobile mag clocked the si at 7.0 sec(0-60), pulled a 0.85g on the skidpad, and a couple of members on the clubsi.com bb achieved a 15.2 sec 1320ft time with the n/a stock motor and no mods. (and since we're talking about the car and not the driver, please don't ask me "well, can YOU achieve those times?") the race should have been close with equal drivers the way i see it but given that most si owners actually modify their cars, he should have edged you out if anything. and for those of you who think stereotypes about civic owners and so called "ricers" represent all civic drivers, it's simply not true. i myself personally detest all the ricey cosmetic stickers, hideous body kits, and the cleared is300-style tails that is so played out among the minority of civic drivers. don't get me wrong, i'm not here to flame the saab or to put it down in any way, just getting some facts correct and demystifying the stereotype that all civic owners flick the bird whenever they lose or that only "punks" drive them. actually i've heard of more people that give the wave or give a thumbs up even after they lose to another car. btw, i'd love to have a viggen but can't afford one right now. (talk about top-botch security and respectable performance all in one!)
