I hear ya' about the whole port-tuning issue. It used to be that with the VW/Audi crowd that the actual ECU had to be removed and the chip unsoldered/resoldered and then put back in the car. Nowadays, port tuning is the state of the art. I work closely with a couple of companies that pioneered that particular technology and they have some interest in getting involved with other enthusiast marques to develop these types of software/hardware upgrades.
