First most rustproofing holes are 1/2 inch, these plastic plugs and other sizes are available at most auto stores.
You don"t need any cleaning or rust removal with the Eastwood internal spray.
The gas tank is easy to remove, and even has a drain plug on the bottom right. No Need to remove to just drain old gas. But it most likely will need cleaned and Sealed in the future. I used KBS system on mine 5 years ago, so far good.
Replace all fluids and a new battery will probably get it running, but this is just the start. It most likely will take a lot of renewing to be safe & reliable. This is a labor of love for most of us. When done you will be on intimate terms with all car systems and can fix anything that comes up.
Is it worth it? I say hell YES<g> These cars receive WAY more attention than their $$$ value. Last summer at a car cruise a new Porsche GT3 parked net to my 69 Sonett. A young boy walking by shouted to his parents "LOOK at That!" The Porsche owner grinned and puffed his chest, as the boy ran over and took photos of my lowly SAAB. I and my friends about fell out of our chairs laughing. This alone was worth all the work I put in this car.
These are excellent cars for the do it yourself-er, as they are simple and require very few tools, and are dirt cheap as old cars go. BUT you must enjoy the journey.
Good luck, RGS 69sonett.com
