Gear Selection Issue

My Sonnett III has always (ok th e12 months I've had it)been funny changing down into second from third. It can be quite trick to find, you usually end up in 4th. but it was always smooth going from 1st to 2nd
Then I had a bit of a glitch an dmaybe (unsure about this) had some overtravel into reverse. Now there is a distinct "notch" or misallignment going from first to second. It is now usually missed.

I've tried adjusting things at the shift end, seems to do no good, only makes it worse.
I reckon there is an issue at th etrans end. ANy views??
