Note that there are two sizes of V-4 engines used in the Sonett III's: a 1498 cc (used in the 1969 and earlier) and the 1698 cc used in the 1970 and later Sonetts. I used standard Ford Pinto 2000 cc pistons when I rebuilt my 1698 cc V-4 on my 73 Sonett (which were 10 thou over the Sonett's standard 1698 cc pistons). They are slightly taller and therefore give a higher compression ratio. Take note that this will not work in the earlier 1498 cc engines as the pistons are different. These 1698 cc & 1498 cc V-4 engines use a balance shaft (like a camshaft) that run in bearings similar to those used for camshafts. These bearings should be replaced when and if you rebuild the motor. The balance shaft is turned thru a set of fibre gears which also tend to wear. If the fibre gear(s) strip the belt that turns the waterpump stops! Apparently there is enough room in the engine bay for the Capri V-6 engine with only having to tilt the radiator foreward but this is not recommended as others have stated (weight & handling). GOOD LUCK !
