I have two stumbling blocks to getting it on the road. Lights and brakes. Now it's time for the noob questions. I've only had the car for one day so not a lot of troubleshooting time yet.
This is not so much a question but when I step on the brakes, the pedal goes almost to the floor before they grab and when they grab, the car pulls to one side. Inspection of the front rotors shows a clean left rotor and a rusty left rotor so this sounds like a brake MC problem. Or maybe just a clogged brake line?
The other big problem is that the headlights don't work. No dash lights either except the warning lights do come on when I start the car and then go out, and when I pull the high beam switch, the high beam indicator in the dash does flash. The running, brake, and blinker lights do work except for right rear and I have an obvious bulb problem there. The backup lights work but only when I hold the shifter knob hard in reverse. All fuses look fine but I haven't pulled/rotated them yet for connection problems.
I don't have an owners manual, but I assume the large rocker switches are running lights and headlights respectively. What is the twistable knob on the dash to the left of the steering wheel? Dimmer control and interior light below the glove box? There is no bulb in the interior light below the glove box. Does anyone know what the part number is for it?
Finally, I have the driving lights behind the grill. Mounted below the center of the dash is a small accessory switch box in the black crinkle finish just like the dash. The left rocker switch turns on the left driving light, which is yellow. The right rocker switch does nothing. Is this switch supposed to turn on the right driving light, which is a clear lense? In between these switches is a red light. The red light does not work. What is this for?
Other problems which can wait are the headliner and the usual hole under the battery. The rear window weep holes were draining into the trunk which didn't help either. One hose was disconnected and the other was pulled out of the hole in the corner. Fortunately, NYS isn't too picky about rust. It took some cranking to get the car started first thing, but started flawlessly the rest of the day. Idle is a little off, not sure how normal the roughness is as I don't have another Sonett to compare. I think it was sitting quite a bit before I got it. Can't wait to get get it on the road so I can bring it to the SOC 2006 in Lake George, NY.
