I agree with chaz on the brakes, i would recommend you replace the pads and shoes(on the front disks theres a peice of spring steel that holds the pads in place, replace this as well) and i would also upgrade the flex hoses to stainless steel re-inforced lines avalible from chip lamb. I replaced all the brake hoses in my two sonetts after one of the lines blew out during hard brakeing and i lost the brakes :0 as far as the driving lights the knob next to the steering wheel is the dimmer switch for the dash lights, i do know know what the box under that dash that you speak of is, my driving lights are conneceted to the "aux" swith above the heater controls and come on with the low beams. one of my sonetts has the fomoco carb and one has been upgraded to the weber 34ICH sigle barrel carb, both cars run fine when tuned right but there is a noticeable differnce in power and smoothness with the weber carb so you might look into that. power washing the engine bay does help tremendoulsly but make sure you cover the car and the distributor as chaz said and also the wireing that runs along the drivers side of the car. If you want to go further replacing the struts with KYB gas adjusts also is a huge improvment in the way the car handles other than that it sounds like you have a sweet little sonett :) enjoy it -Craig
