Hello TonyC. I had similar experiences as you w/ my 96 SETC. My advice is to find a good SAAB Indy. For about two yrs I was getting an intermittent CEL and limp mode especially if gas went under 1/4 tank or when I refilled the gas tank. AS a result under extended warranty, stealership changed the ECU twice, Tranny switch, t/stat, etc....,after a while I just learned to live w/ the CEL and LIMP issue
Then, after the extd waranty expired, I took the car to Glen Cove Foreign cars in Long Island for some minor exhaust work. They found my gas tank was cracked and it was causing the CEL and LIMP. Since then ( three yrs ago) I have not experienced any CELs or or LIMP issues. I love driving the car more that my 03 Infiniti FX45
So, invest some time and find a good Indy SAAB
Hope this helps
