Hi All,

I'm seriously considering buying a nice 2001 9-5 SE 2.3t. But having a quick look through these posts scares me witless!! I thought this was a high quality car but all I'm reading is tales of woe and misery... most notably the absurd "sludge issue", but also numerous failures of major parts. Can anyone explain why they can't make a PCV system that works? I have not heard of any other brands with these issues.

I've owned 4 Mazdas and one Alfa Romeo (yes!) and never had car "break down" on me (ie stop for no apparant reason) nor even had a fault that I wouldn't call "normal wear and tear", but reading here gives you the impression that the 9-5 is seriously problematic. Is it just that it's only the people with problems commenting here?

I really like the car, but I don't want to be landed with something that's going to cost me heaps of money and be impossible to sell later.

Regarding the sludge- is there anyone from Australia who has had the problems? And has Saab Australia been helpful or not? The woman I talked to there yesterday didn't even seem to know what the story was with the sludge issue. Maybe that's a good thing, as perhaps the problem is more isolated than it seems?
