Wow, I guess I stirred up a hornet's nest with my question. I appreciate all the views here. Having said that I wasn't suggesting that I was buying some cheep tire. Acually I had in mind a fair expensive name brand, but H speed rated tire.

I also believe that the best thing you have in your car that keeps you out of trouble is YOUR BRAIN!! True, a V tire might get better braking distance and that could come in handy. It certainly must be a consideration for those who chronically follow too close--and you know who you are. But I don't do that.

It's not that I'm trying to whimp out on equipment, but on the other hand we have this issue today that the cars have gotten so good but drivers are getting worse (and AJ Foyt echoed this as well)-and part of that is due to the overreliance on the technology.

Any car can be driven safely, and any car can be driven to the point that it is a death trap.

But I really don't want to have to have 2 sets of tires--one for winter one for the rest of the year. What's next, change them when it starts to rain and put on another set when it's going to be dry? I'm not a race car driver; I just want a good all-around tire.
