Interestingly I just placed a call to Nokian this morning to see if they'd ever heard of this and to possibly pursue a warantee claim. They hadn't and said I'd need to get my car to a Nokian dealer to be inspected.
After reading this thread I then called a trusted Saab service manager who'd been involved in my first experience when I, and they, thought it was the axle bearing. I mentioned the talk here of it possibly being alignment related, or shock wear. He responded that it probably wouldn't be rear alignment because there's no alignment to be done (save for replacing damaged parts).
