Hi all,

I thought I'd add my two cents to this tire-cupping debate. I found this site by doing a "tire cupping saab" search in Google. Since a lot of info has already been covered here, I'm going to just do a little list of info that might help diagnosis:

Tire history:
1. Got the car at 58k mi. Newer Dunlop SP2s on the rear, don't recall the fronts. Cupping presented at 63k mi. Wear became very pronounced and fast paced after that.
2. Blow-out on highway due to inner tread wear at 78k mi. Replaced all four tires with Kumho Ecstas (cheap tires because I wanted to figure this out first).
3. Kumhos started cupping on rears at 81k mi. Very pronounced--3 in.
4. Rotated tires at 84k mi.--hesitant to rotate due to cupping issue, but decided to do it anyway.
5. At 91k mi. the fronts were shot. Belts fully exposed on inner portion of tire. Replaced fronts with Yokohama AVSs.

Alignment history:
1. At 58k. mi., alignment performed. Within spec.
2. Skipped alignment when I got the new tires at 78k. due to cupping issue--wanted to diagnose more.
3. Alignment at 84k. mi. Rear toe settings totally out. Front toe acceptable.
4. Alignment at 91k. mi. with new front tires. Front toe unnacceptable (negative). Rears not bad, but pretty negative.

Okay, the other very important and notable observation: There was some squeaking in the rear suspension. Turns out there's a bushing that's at the end of the longitudinal link that's shot. I haven't replaced it yet, and just plainly keep forgetting to. I'm going to do it soon, though.

Note: The condition of this bushing is NOT OBSERVABLE without dismantling the rear suspension! It looks great, but when the suspension is torn apart, the mangled bushing is quite obvious. My suspicion is that this is the culprit.

So, has anyone experience any squeaking *at any time* in the rear suspension?

If so, this might help us diagnose the problem.

Also, I recommend setting the tires for as much toe-out as acceptable. Standard toe settings are quite negative (I think).

- Mike
