I bought a 2000 9-5 SEV6 SportWagon last year. Unless things change, it'll probably be my last Saab.

I love Saab, and I love the 9-5. Since GM completed the buyout in 2001, I've seen the 9-5 lose feature after feature that made me fall in love with the car, thanks to GM's "decontenting" to increase profitability.

With the 2006 model, not only has the car been made into an ugly parody of a Japanese sedan on the outside, but the inside has become another GM corporate abomination. Gone is the Saab radio, with its large buttons that can be used while wearing ski gloves. Yes, the SID had its issues, but I've never seen another car LCD that was so legible and free from distraction in every lighting condition. I've used the GM headunit in rental cars, and the ergonomics suck.

I doubt the GM corporate AC system retains neat features like automatic defrosting, or understanding that when I push "defrost" I mean defrost everything, right now :)

Saabs used to be the Apple Macintoshes of the car world. Saab "thought different," and thought well, and built a car that did what you need without much fuss. GM doesn't understand that.

GM has done an excellent job of driving me away from buying a new Saab. For my money, the 1999-2001 9-5 were the best of the last true Saab.
