Wow. Lots of negatives here. I'm genuinely surprised.
1. My 02' 9-5 has been absolutely trouble free. Economical highway runner. Great overall car, and I mean overall in every way possible. Interior and exterior is the most 'Swedish' / Scandinavian mod of any car available at the time. My 05' 9-5 again is still the most Swedish car available.
2. Saab dealers really do deal, but you gotta push, too. If you're not dealing with a large volume Saab dealer or in an area where there a multiple Saab dealers then try going to a major area to get your next Saab. I found that a short term lease payment on now my second 9-5 is less than an Accord V6 EX lease. I'll take the Saab any day. The dealer I went with in the end was more than $100 less per month on the same car, my 05' 9-5 Arc. Duh, People we also get new Saabs because they are a VALUE PRICED CAR.
3. I'm not going to defend GM. I also don't like the things they have taken out of the car, but GM has smartly left enough in it to still set Saab off from other brands as 'Swedish', particularly when seen next to the overall fakeness of the latest Acuras and Infinitis. These cars look ridiculously out of date as soon as the next model comes out. They're not better in that regard than Hondas, Nissins, Toyata, etc. Lexus is bad that way too, though the new IS may finally be something to consider. And, well, sure, a BMW or Audi is a bit more of a car than a Saab. Really. But they're simply not worth the premium in price to me, nor are they more reliable, and Saab is still managing to appeal to me in the same way as BMW/Audi do as a great European styled family/sport sedan.
4. Give me break on the 'end of Saab' rumors. As long as Saab is coming close to breaking even in the US and abroad GM is not going to let them go. They do not lose enough to off set the value the brand brings to the overall GM family of brands. It's not like Oldmosbile who had to sell 15 times the number Saab has to sell in the US.
So as long as Saab continues the above qualities in relation to other cars, I'll be back fro my next 9-5. And if you all think the new styling is somehow 'Japanese' you need to review your design books.
