I'm sure the 9 3 SS is amazing. Seems like if you want the best Saab can offer then the 9 3 SS is it. Which to me makes the makeover 9 5 seem silly. I would recommend the new 9 5 if it was the best sedan possible, I just don't think it is. I wonder if some lessons learned and applied to the 9 3SS were then applied to the new 9 5. Seems like the changes are more cosmetic, no longer selling the bottom line car, and better value pricing. I hope Saab sells lots, just fear they won't.
As for the DIC, there is an official, real recall, covering model year 2000 thru 2001. The DIC will be replaced with a newer version which improves its reliability. The design is the same and that appears to be root of the problem, but at least the new DIC will reduce failure rates, which is better than nothing. If you go to Edmunds.com and look up say a Saab 9 5 2001 and check for all recalls and TSBs you will see the new DIC recall posted.
