The part is over $300 in the secondary market. It takes about 5 minutes for a tech (maybe 10 for you)to install it, and the frightening posts have involved installation charges which are complete rip-offs.
Consider this - that gadget is the coil and the distributor, in old fashioned terms, and how many sets of points, rotors, maybe a distributor head, even a coil would you have replaced in 100,000 miles. At 100,000, it's a wear item.
The poeple with the beef are those whose DIC goes at 50,000, on the highway, and the car just stops. If they live to complain. Actually, we haven't had a bad accident reported here from that (unless i missed it).
