Wow, this is getting more interesting by the minute. FYI; I got a system software as part of my 90k service at this same dealership. It was not long after, maybe around 96k that when I started getting the intermittent CEL indication. Since the car ran OK, I waited until 100k to have it checked out when maintenence was due too. In a conversation with the mechanic on Friday, he said the IDM can go quite a while before a full failure. I don't knoww if the software upgrade he did is the one you are refering to, do you have a rev# for it by chance? In earlier posts I read that the software upgrade I got may have actually helped the CEL indicator to appear.
I am ready to confront the dealership, because I want the latest and greatest version of this part & software to prevent the recall related failure. As far as I know, I currently have the latest software, which was installed about 3 months ago and of course the IDM p/n 9197559, rev 3.6. is still in there. If that will resolve this matter, then maybe I won't pursue it right now and can rest a bit easier.
I did a net search for the new p/n 55559955 and also found it for $189 at eEuroparts.com. My mechanic also mentioned that he carries spare IDMs in all his Saabs just in case.
I hope that whenever the actual tech bulletin/recall info is given to the dealers that someone can post the particularshere on this BBS. I will also be writing Saab about this and have already filed an online complaint with NHTSA. The more complaints they get on this issue, maybe they can expand the recall to cover the all the other model years affected. Refer to campaign ID# 05V399000 on http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov. In the off-chance that I might be reimburssed for this by Saab, I would imagine the newer p/n will need to be installed anyway to get them to cover it!
