Note that the center speaker is also used for things other than music: turn signal "clicks" and audible alarms all eminate from it. I don't know how it's driven - whether from some external signal generator, one internal to the power amp module, or internal to the head unit.
In the 9 speaker implementation ("HK Prestige"), the front door speakers seem to be mid-bass, and the rear door speakers are treble units. In the 7 speaker (Premium Sound) implementation the rear door speakers seem to be full-range units.
Input to the power amp is a "balanced" signal (neither wire being grounded). The average aftermarket radio "line out" signal is grounded, so you need to add some circuitry to "float" the signal.
Speaker impedance for the OE speakers is all over the map, ranging from 1.8 ohms for the front door "Premium" 6 1/2" speakers to 5.9 ohms for the "Prestige" center speaker. It seems they use speaker impedance to "balance" the sound levels.
