Hey guys!
Ok, I have some reflections, but also some concrete examples...
Because of the lack of money I've desided that the only way of getting a quality system is to do the upgrade in two or more steps. I am pretty sure of step one, and it looks like this.
Step One:
After a call to the Saab help desk, I now know that in my car with the As-1 system, there are two pair of speakers installed. In the front panel there is a 3" single cone driver, and in the rear doors there's an 5.25" single cone driver. This should mean that both these speakers are getting a fullrange signal from the headunit (no amp in my system.... yet :) Replacing those bad sounding speakers will be easy, and will therefore be my first step. Here I've been looking at a coax system from JBL's GTO-series. The GTO327 (http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=GTO327&cat=MEL&ser=GTS&language=&country=US®ion=USA) for the front, and the GTO527 (http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=GTO527&cat=MEL&ser=GTS&language=&country=US®ion=USA) for the rear.
I've listened to these speakers and I like the sound, even though there is a huge lack of bass....so, here is my thoughts. Adding an 6.5" woofer in the fron door should add some low freq. extension to my system, ofcourse driven by some kind of amp. I'm not sure of wich 6.5 woofer to choose, but I'm thinking of either the JL Audio 6W0 (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/9297.pdf), or the Emphaser ECP65KICK (http://www.emphaser.com/index_e.html click at speaker units, kickbass). I don't no wich amp to chosse, and the decision won't be easier when I consider the fact that I in the future probably wanna place another set of the 6.5 woofer in the rear shelf. A six channel amp would be great with only one set of woofers, and ofcourse I could run all four of them on two channels, but the best thing would if I could remain the ability to fade the sound between front and back. I could get two 4 channel amps or one 6 channel and one 2 channel, and a switch so that I could use all four woofers but only the front coax. (In that case I would connect the 6 channel pre-out to the 2 channel amp, and, as I said I would get the possibility to use the rear woofer togheter with the front system, but I would in the same time loose the ability to fade the woofer togheter with the rear coax.
I bet it will be at least a month or two before step two begins. So, if you don't have any other recomendation I think I'm gonna try my idea, and hopefully I will at least get a bit better sound :)
If any of yoy have experience in mounting speakers in my car, I would be glad for any tip at all!
Thanx once again!
