One of the things I strongly believe in is that teen driver's need a vehicle that can react as quickly as they react to things (their inexperience in combination with their amazingly fast reaction skills, though which often cause overeactions) need to be matched to a vehicle that can actually handle the reactions.
One of the weirdest things we do as Americans is we give someone a driver's license at 16 or 17 and then stick em in some piece of shit car that is deadly in newer hands.
I've got a friend who works in statistical analysis for a large insurance company, and one of the questions I've had for him is how many lives would be saved yearly if the teenager was given the keys to the newest car in the household (best performance, accident evasion abilities, most safety features) and let the parent drive the piece of shit car.
We estimate several hundred lives yearly.
