Still,if you saw bonafide improvement after that external cleaning, it implicates the radiator.
btw if the tstat is stuck closed, driving on the highway or other high flow, low demand driving will not cool it off. with the tstat stuck closed, the coolant does not get to the radiator.
The backflush tee is very easy to install. you cut a heater hose and splice it in. then you can hook up a garden hose to back flush the engine, rad and heater core under pressure. works great.
here are instructions for a 9000, but not sure how it would apply to your v6. regardless, its a matter of identifying the heater hose and splicing in the tee. takes 30 minutes.
