Short version:

If the brake fluid level sending unit is malfunctioning, can it cause the ABS warning light and speedo failure in addition to the brake fluid light? (I guess I'm hoping it's as simple as that!)

Long version:

ATE rebuilt my ABS module a couple of weeks ago. After reinstalling it, I continue to get the ABS/Brake Light and audible warning (occasionally accompanied by speedo failure) though somewhat less frequently than before.

Last night I replaced the front pads and rotors and one caliper and immediatley after that, including around 5-6 driving/engine starting cycles, the warnings including speedo failure are now constant. It was always intermittent with varying frequency before that. What could have caused that?

The brake fluid is halfway between Min and Max and I scanned the ECU using an OBDII scanner and there are no codes.

History:

Over the last few months the ABS Warning lights/signals and speedo failure increased in frequency. Sometimes when the warning lights were on, I could feel in the brake pedal that the ABS started to activate near the end of stopping the car.

The CEL has never come on. However, once or twice there was a Pending Code of P0501.

I took it to the Saab dealer to have it diagnosed using their Tech2 and they told me they got code P0501 and that the ABS unit needed to be replaced.

One other thing that seems a bit odd is that while the ABS module was removed, I continue to drive the car. I would have expected the warning lights to remain constant, but there were a couple of times that the lights turned off and quickly back on and the audible alarm sounded. When this occurred I read a Pending Code of P0502. At that time, I checked the brake fluid and it was at the Min level so I added some. It didn’t happen again but I have no idea whether it was related.

Any help in diagnosing this would be greatly appreciated!!!
